About Us

Vision

Every Kamaʻāina has a home.

Mission

Our mission is to educate the communities of Hawaiʻi about affordable housing issues and bring awareness to programs, projects, and solutions, that help local-born residents stay and thrive.

Story

Hi, my name is Andy Arakaki and I was born and raised on O‘ahu, currently living in Pearl City. I'm a real estate agent with Compass and have previously founded Mix Plate Media, a design and digital agency that worked across multiple industries in Hawaiʻi.

While I have my license, I don't actively sell real estate. I spend most of my time creating content around neighborhoods and new developments, with the purpose of connecting homeowners and prospective homebuyers with knowledgable and experienced agents that value integrity.

In the same way that realtors have a fiduciary duty to their clients, I believe realtors, along with all residents, have a responsibility to the betterment of our communities.

I decided to create Affordable Housing Hawaiʻi after attending several roundtable discussions with various leaders devoted to solving our affordable housing crisis. I wanted to contribute to the solution and felt that using my experience with design and digital marketing was the best way to do so.

I invite you to browse the website and vote, suggest, and/or submit your ideas on how we can collaboratively contribute to solving Hawaii’s affordable housing crisis together.
