Currently, the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority and Kaua‘i County requires certain new developments to provide 20% affordable units. While it may be easy to simply suggest increasing this requirement, we also need to consider how to allow for additional housing without creating a burden on the developer. One way would be to offer more incentives. Some incentives can be things like fee waivers, expedited permitting or increased density.
